Young People: The Art of the Pen with Nayab Ahmed

Explore the history of the Arabic script, develop practical calligraphy skills and discover how to write your name in Arabic.
In this beginner-friendly workshop, young people are invited to learn the fundamentals of Arabic Calligraphy through foam brushes and paint at a large-scale. Learn the basic strokes, how to hold the pen, form letters and craft your names in Arabic.
Nayab Ahmed is a London-based Graphic Designer, Calligrapher & Workshop Facilitator passionate about participatory practice, educational storytelling and challenging cultural histories. She specialises in print, typography and Arabic Calligraphy and educating others through workshops, focusing on craft and using our hands.
Useful information:
- This is a drop off workshop suitable for unaccompanied young people aged 11-16yrs.
- All workshops take place in the Learning Centre at Leighton House. This session may take place outdoors in Leighton's garden (weather permitting).
- All materials provided.
- Entry to the museum and exhibition is included for young people joining the workshop. Adults can enjoy the garden and Drawings Gallery for free, or visit the café, but will need to buy an admission ticket if they wish to visit the historic house.
