'Borrowed' - An Evening of Baroque Chamber Music

To open our 2026-27 season, an evening of baroque chamber music entitled ‘Borrowed’. At its heart are two solos: the flute partita in a harpsichord transcription and the French Suite no. 2 in a recorder transcription. These works are framed by pieces for recorder and cembalo obligato. Telemann and Bach had close personal relationship as Telemann was CPE Bach’s godfather. On the other hand, the relationship between Bach and Scheibe was all but friendly: Scheibe was a harsh critic of Bach’s style.

Meet Michael Form
Michael Form is recognised as one of the most multifaceted musicians of his generation. For many years, he has been successfully balancing his two career paths as an instrumental virtuoso and as an orchestral conductor. As a recorder player, he has specialised exclusively in Early Music, with a distinctively rich sound. His playing has been documented on many CD recordings with repertoire ranging from Hildegard von Bingen to Johann Sebastian Bach. Nathaniel Mander is an early keyboard performer known for his expressive, elegant and virtuosic style. He trained at the Royal Academy of Music with Carole Cerasi and is recognised as one of the leading keyboard artists of his generation.
