Family Fun (5-10yrs): Sing Nowruz
Saturday 14 March, 11am-12:30pm & 2:30-4pm
Music sits at the heart of Persian celebration, especially Nowruz, the festival marking Persian New Year. In this joyful workshop, a singer–performer will teach simple, celebratory Persian songs with live accompaniment on a traditional instrument, using call-and-response, clapping patterns and playful warm-ups.
Children will learn short lyrics (with easy transliteration and English meanings) and discover how songs carry stories, values and seasonal traditions.
Parents and carers will gain confidence supporting bilingual/multicultural learning at home and understanding the cultural context behind the music.
Designed to bridge cultures, the workshop will introduce non-Iranian children to Persian heritage in an accessible way, while offering a proud point of connection for Persian-origin children born and raised in the UK. All are welcome, no singing experience needed. Lyric sheets will be provided.
Useful information:
- Family Fun workshops are designed for primary school children, age 5-10 years old.
- Children must be accompanied by an adult during the workshop - workshops are not drop-off and the accompanying adult must stay with their child.
- To avoid disappointment, please do not book tickets for children / siblings under 5, as they will not be able to participate. Additional family members accompanying younger siblings are welcome to enjoy our café and garden during the workshop.
- The workshops will take place in the Leighton House Learning Centre and might include access to the historic house.
- Accompanying adults (1x per child) come for free and admission to the historic house is included in the ticket price.
- Family Fun workshops are popular. If you are no longer able to attend, please let us know.
