Out Shopping: After Hours
Friday 19 July 2024, 6:30pm - 9pm
Experience the unique surroundings of Leighton House after hours, through the lens of sustainability, recycling and upcycling.
Inspired by the temporary exhibition Out Shopping: The Dresses of Marion and Maud Sambourne (1880-1910), showcasing art, fashion and photography for the first time, spend a fun, relaxed and creative summer evening with us.
What's On
- Join Lydia Bolton, sustainability creator and slow fashion designer, for a workshop in Leighton's studio. Try out your skills of upcycling and how to remake, mend and give a new lease of life to old clothing.
- Experience an ambient soundscape and sonic journey with live sampling, drone-like textures, and intermittent rhythmic intervals with DJ Mariam Morshed.
- Meet Marion Sambourne 'herself' as she introduces her favourite outfits on display in the exhibition gallery.
- Thrift with our local Kensington High Street charity shops joining us for the evening.
- Refresh your wardrobe with our clothing swap stall in the Learning Centre (bring a piece, take a piece!).
- A paid bar will be open throughout the evening, as well as the museum and our gorgeous garden in flower.
- And much more: Victorian dress-up, #Leightonselfie, textile jewellery-making workshop...
