Family Fun: Science of Nature

Saturday 21 September, 19 October, 16 November, 11am - 12:30pm and 2 - 3:30pm

A new series of Family Fun workshops exploring the science we can find in some of the natural elements in the world around us: wind, light and colour.

Inspired by Leighton’s collection of landscape paintings, where he chose to paint outdoors ‘experiencing the weather’ instead of in his studio and experiment with colour and the impact of changing light.

Family Fun: Science of Nature (Wind and Weather)

Saturday 21 September, 11am - 12:30pm and 2 - 3:30pm

In this session, children will look at ‘what is air’ and the uses of and effects of air moving around the Earth. The science of winds as a feature of weather will be explored and children will make a wind chime from natural materials to take home.

Family Fun: Science of Nature (Light)

Saturday 19 October, 11am - 12:30pm and 2 - 3:30pm

In this session, children will explore the physics of light and look at how light affects different objects, including paintings. Children will carry out activities that show different features of light and how we can use this in our everyday lives, as well as examples of light that we find in the natural world.

Family Fun: Science of Nature (Colour)

Saturday 16 November, 11am - 12:30pm and 2 - 3:30pm

In this session, children will find out about the many different colours that can be found in our world, both natural and man-made. Children will explore different ways that colours are made with light and also by using pigments found in nature.
