Art In Fiction: James Cahill and Tim Knox In Conversation

Author James Cahill will be joined by Tim Knox, Director of the Royal Collection, for a conversation about Cahill’s acclaimed debut novel Tiepolo Blue – the story of an art historian’s downfall and mid-life awakening.

Cahill will introduce some of the inspirations behind this story of art, desire and disgrace in 1990s London – from Caravaggio to the ‘YBAs’ to Leighton House – before chatting with Knox about Tiepolo Blue and the art-world setting of his second novel, The Violet Hour (coming February 2025).

  • Doors open at 6:30pm for the chance to explore the historic house. 
  • The talk with  James Cahill and Tim Knox will take place in Leighton's studio from 7-8:30pm.
  • Book signing from 8:30-9pm. Doors close at 9pm.
  • A paid bar will be open throughout the evening.

 

Meet Dr James Cahill

James Cahill is an author, art critic and academic. His debut novel, Tiepolo Blue (Sceptre Books, 2022), was shortlisted for the Author’s Club Best First Novel Award.  His writing has appeared in publications including the Los Angeles Review of Books, the London Review of Books, the Spectator, the Times Literary Supplement and the Daily Telegraph. He was the lead author and consulting editor of Flying Too Close to the Sun (Phaidon Books, 2018), a survey of classical myth in art from antiquity to the present day. He is currently writing a nonfiction book on the original ‘Real Housewife of Beverly Hills’.
